New Year - New Books!

Check out some of the new books in the library...

Ranger's Apprentice #12 The Royal Ranger has finally arrived in out library! Fans of the series have had lots of good things to say about John Flanagan's books about fifteen-year-old Will, an apprentice learning the ways of the kingdom's Rangers, who as its protectors fight battles before the battles reach the people. You can find out more about the series here.  You can also read Mr. Flanagan's Brotherband Chronicles series. The library has books 1-3 of the chronicles so far.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell has deservedly topped many top young adult books of the year lists. This book tells the tale of two teens that don't quite fit in and how their awkward friendship grows into something more. More than just a teen romance, this book examines the themes of not fitting in, bullying and getting by in a world that isn't always fair.

Fan Girl  is another highly recommended young adult novel written by Rainbow Rowell. Cath and Wren are twins on their way to university. Cath, with help from Wren, loves to write fan fiction about her favourite character from the Simon Snow series. But now she is living with someone other than her sister (who wants to expand her horizons at university without her) and life is changing and not necessarily for the better. Will her continued love for Simon Snow help her keep her life together?

Si-cology by Si Robertson was Blaine H.'s Friday Reads' pick. Fans of the Duck Dynasty show will enjoy this book filled with Si's advice.

The Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland comes to the library at the recommendation of Colin W. The series begins with The Dragonet Prophecy. Tui T. Sutherland is the author of the Avatars trilogy and helped write three Seekers books as part of the Erin Hunter team of writers.

From the book jacket:

"The seven dragon tribes have been at war for generations, locked in an endless battle over an ancient, lost treasure. A secret movement called the Talons of Peace is determined to bring an end to the fighting, with the help of a prophecy—a foretelling that calls for great sacrifice.

Five dragonets are collected to fulfill the prophecy, raised in a hidden cave and enlisted, against their will, to end the terrible war.

But not every dragonet wants a destiny. And when the select five escape their underground captors to look for their original homes, what has been unleashed on the dragon world may be far more than the revolutionary planners intended…"

Our library also has the next three books in the series, The Lost HeirThe Hidden Kingdom, and The Dark Secret

Speaking of the Erin Hunter team (you do know Erin Hunter is actually more than one writer?), the library now has three of the graphic novels in the Skyclan & The Stranger series. A fourth book is expected soon.

Warriors Skyclan & The Stranger #1 Rescue
Warriors Skyclan & The Stranger #2 Beyond the Code by Erin Hunter
Warriors Skyclan & The Stranger #3 After the Flood by Erin Hunter

Scream Street Books 7-13 by Tommy Donbavand is a series that comes highly recommended by Jarrod M. from our school and, according to the cover of book one, Scream Street Fang of the Vampire, it is also recommended by Eoin Colfer, the excellent author of the Artemis Fowl series. Here's what Mr. Colfer has to say, "Exactly the sort of grisly, gross and hilarious stuff that kids will love!". If you are a fan of fast-paced, funny and somewhat scary tales that come complete with interesting pencil drawn art, you will enjoy these tales from Scream Street.
